The final paycheck is not always the final payroll task.
An employee leaves in September. The company email is disabled a few days later. The old payroll password is forgotten. Then January arrives, and the former employee needs a Payroll Relief W-2 from an account that has not been opened for months.
Payroll Relief provides employee portals through which participating workers can view or print pay statements, W-2 forms and certain 1099 documents. The portal is created through the employer, accounting firm or payroll processor—not through a universal public employee-registration system.
That distinction matters after employment ends. The former employer or its payroll provider still controls the portal record, login credentials and release of the tax document.
Before Leaving: Preserve the Access Route
The easiest time to prepare for tax season is before the employee account becomes difficult to reach.
While access still works, save the verified portal address and identify the three credentials used by the Payroll Relief Employee Portal:
- Firm code
- User ID
- Password
The official mobile-app description says employees receive these credentials from their employer. The firm code connects the worker to the accounting firm or payroll provider serving the employer.
Do not save the password in an unprotected note or send it to a personal email account.
Instead, record the non-secret information needed to request help later:
- Employer’s legal or payroll name
- HR or payroll contact
- Accounting firm or processor, when known
- Firm code
- Employee ID
- Portal address
- Last working date
Also confirm whether the portal uses a personal email or a company-controlled address.
The Work Email May Disappear
Former employees often focus on the password when the real problem is the email account.
If Payroll Relief access or password recovery depends on a company email that has been disabled, ordinary self-service recovery may no longer work. The employee should contact the former employer or payroll processor and ask whether the existing portal record can be updated or recovered.
Do not create a second portal identity with a personal email unless the former employer specifically instructs you to do so.
A new account may not contain:
- Historical pay stubs
- Prior-year W-2 forms
- Earlier employer records
- The correct legal entity
- Previously uploaded documents
The original portal was generated from the payroll record maintained by the employer or its accountant.
Does Payroll Relief Work for Former Employees?
Payroll Relief supports employee access to pay statements and tax forms, but the public product information does not establish one universal former-employee access policy.
Each employer or payroll processor determines how long credentials remain active and how former workers receive documents.
Possible arrangements include:
- Existing portal access remains active
- Access is limited to payroll and tax records
- The username is changed to a personal email
- HR resets the existing account
- The W-2 is mailed instead
- The employer provides a secure copy on request
- Historical records remain with an earlier payroll provider
Ask the former employer directly rather than assuming the account has been permanently deleted.
January: Start With the Employee Portal
Payroll Relief allows payroll professionals to release W-2 and 1099 documents to employee portals. Its product pages also state that employees can view and print available W-2s through the secure portal.
After signing in, look for a section labeled something similar to:
- Tax Forms
- Payroll Tax Forms
- W-2
- Year-End Forms
- Documents
- Prior-Year Forms
The exact wording may depend on the portal version.
Select the correct tax year before concluding that the document is missing. An employee who left during 2025 would ordinarily be looking for the 2025 wage statement during the following tax season, not the year in which the portal is opened.
Prior-Year W-2 Access
The Payroll Relief Employee Portal app has been described as providing access to prior-year W-2 forms in addition to current payroll information.
Prior-year access can be useful when an employee needs:
- A replacement tax document
- Proof of prior earnings
- Records for a tax amendment
- Documentation for a mortgage or lease
- A copy after losing the original
- Wage information from a former employer
Do not assume every year will remain visible indefinitely.
Download an allowed copy and store it securely. Tax documents should not be kept in a public downloads folder, shared photo album or unsecured cloud link.
The W-2 Is Not Listed
A missing document can have several explanations:
- The employer has not released it yet
- The wrong tax year is selected
- The employee signed into the wrong employer record
- The firm code belongs to another payroll provider
- Payroll changed providers during the year
- The employee worked for another legal entity
- The account was created after the historical payroll
- The form is being delivered by mail
- Portal access ended after termination
Send the former employer a precise request:
I can access the Payroll Relief Employee Portal with firm code [code], but the W-2 for tax year 2025 is not listed. Please confirm whether it has been released to this employee record or will be delivered another way.
That is more useful than reporting only that Payroll Relief is not working.
One Company Name, Two Legal Employers
A worker may recognize the company’s public brand but receive a W-2 under another legal name.
This can happen when:
- Several locations use separate legal entities
- A franchise location runs its own payroll
- The employee transferred between related companies
- Ownership changed
- Payroll moved from one entity to another
- The employee held roles under separate payroll records
Review the employer name on prior pay statements.
A missing W-2 may actually exist in another portal record or under a different firm code associated with the relevant legal employer.
Do not assume that two wage statements are duplicates merely because the workplace name looks similar.
Payroll Provider Changed During the Year
A company can move from one payroll provider to another.
Payroll Relief supports importing employee and prior-payroll information from former providers, but the employee-facing location of historical documents can still depend on how the transition was configured.
The employee may need to check:
- The old Employee Portal
- The current payroll portal
- Documents supplied directly by HR
- A mailed form
- Separate records for different parts of the year
Ask the employer which provider is responsible for the year-end form.
Do not create repeated login attempts across unrelated payroll sites using the same password.
The Firm Code No Longer Works
The firm code identifies the payroll or accounting relationship behind the Employee Portal. It may stop working when:
- The accounting firm changed
- Payroll moved to another provider
- The employee is using an old employer’s code
- The code was entered incorrectly
- The company was moved to another portal environment
- The former employee record was deactivated
Check for copied spaces and confusing characters such as zero and the letter O.
When the code still fails, ask the former employer for the firm code associated with the tax year in question. The current payroll firm may not be the same firm that processed the employee’s earlier wages.
The User ID Is No Longer Recognized
Possible user IDs include a personal email, company email, employee number or custom identifier.
A former employee should tell HR which credentials previously worked and which email is still accessible.
Useful details include:
- Former work email
- Current personal email
- Firm code
- Employee ID
- Last pay date
- Tax year needed
- Exact login error
Do not send the old password.
The employer or payroll processor should reset or reconnect the existing portal record.
Mobile Access to Tax Forms
The official Employee Portal Payroll Relief app provides around-the-clock access to available pay stubs and payroll tax forms. It requires the firm code, user ID and password supplied by the employer.
The app may be useful when the browser portal is inconvenient, but it does not bypass inactive credentials or missing employer records.
When the app does not show the W-2:
- Verify the correct firm code.
- Confirm the selected year.
- Check whether another employer profile exists.
- Try the verified browser portal.
- Contact the former employer or payroll processor.
The Android app was updated on March 24, 2025. The Apple listing notes that biometric fast login was temporarily disabled in version 2.0.0, so some users may need to enter their ordinary credentials manually.
Old Address on the W-2
The Employee Portal app supports updates to mailing address, phone number and email information.
However, changing the profile after a form has been issued may not automatically regenerate the W-2.
An old address and incorrect wage information are also different issues.
Contact the employer and state exactly what appears wrong:
- Mailing address
- Legal name
- Social Security number
- Employer information
- Wages
- Tax withholding
- Tax year
Do not send a complete Social Security number through ordinary email. Use the employer’s approved verification process.
The W-2 Amount Looks Wrong
Compare the W-2 with the final pay statement and year-to-date payroll totals available in the portal.
Differences can arise because a bank deposit is not the same as taxable wages. Net pay is reduced by taxes and deductions, while W-2 boxes report specific wage and tax categories.
Questions to review include:
- Is the correct year selected?
- Did the employee work under another entity?
- Were there taxable benefits?
- Were pre-tax deductions involved?
- Is another W-2 expected?
- Does the employee have a corrected form?
Do not change figures on the form yourself.
Contact the employer or payroll processor and identify the specific box or amount in question.
W-2 and 1099 Access Are Not Identical
Payroll Relief supports employee portals for W-2s and certain 1099 forms.
A person who performed work in different capacities may receive different tax documents. The type of form reflects how the payer reported the compensation; it is not chosen by the employee through the portal.
Look for all available year-end documents before assuming one is missing.
Questions about how the worker was classified or which form should have been issued should be directed to the payer and, where necessary, a qualified tax professional.
W-4 Upload Versus W-2 Download
The app allows supported employees to upload a W-4 securely to their employer and view payroll tax forms.
The two forms should not be confused.
W-4: tells an employer how to calculate future federal income-tax withholding.
W-2: reports wages and taxes already processed for a completed calendar year.
Uploading a new W-4 does not correct a historical W-2.
A suspected W-2 error must be addressed with the employer responsible for the reported wages.
A Payday Notification Is Not a Tax-Form Alert
The Employee Portal app can notify users when they are paid by their payroll processor.
That does not mean the same notification confirms that a W-2 has been released.
Open the tax-document section directly during year-end season. Do not rely only on push notifications, especially when:
- App notifications are disabled
- The phone was replaced
- The user signed out
- The former work email is inactive
- The employer communicates through mail
Tax documents should be checked through the verified portal or confirmed with the former employer.
Who Should a Former Employee Contact?
Start with the former employer or the payroll contact that issued the Employee Portal credentials.
The responsible organization may be:
- Former employer HR
- Former employer payroll department
- Company owner
- Accounting firm
- Bookkeeper
- External payroll processor
Provide:
- Full legal name
- Former employee ID
- Employment dates
- Firm code, when known
- User ID previously used
- Tax year needed
- Current mailing address
- Safe contact information
Do not provide:
- Portal password
- Complete Social Security number by ordinary email
- Full bank account details
- One-time verification code
- Unrequested identity-document scans
A Safer Request for a Missing W-2
A useful message can be brief:
I worked for [legal employer name] from [dates]. My Payroll Relief Employee Portal does not show the W-2 for tax year [year]. My former employee ID is [ID], and the firm code I previously used is [code]. Please confirm whether the document has been released or provide the approved process for obtaining it.
This gives the employer enough information to begin without exposing unnecessary credentials.
Payroll Relief W-2 Questions
Can employees access W-2 forms through Payroll Relief?
Yes. Payroll Relief provides secure employee portals through which participating employees can view and print available W-2s, 1099s and pay statements.
Can former employees still log in?
Access depends on the former employer or payroll processor. Payroll Relief supports employee tax-form access, but the organization managing the employee record controls the credentials.
Can I view an older W-2?
Payroll Relief’s employee app has been described as supporting access to prior-year W-2 forms. The years available in a specific account depend on the employer’s records and portal setup.
What credentials are required?
The official app requires a firm code, user ID and password supplied by the employer.
Why does my old firm code fail?
The employer may have changed accounting firms or payroll processors, the code may belong to another company or the former portal may have been deactivated.
Can I update my mailing address?
The official app supports profile updates that can include mailing address, phone number and email. A change made after a W-2 is issued may not alter the existing form.
Where are W-2s located?
Look in the Employee Portal section labeled Tax Forms, Payroll Tax Forms, W-2, Year-End Forms or Documents.
Why do I see pay stubs but no W-2?
The form may not have been released, the wrong year may be selected, the employee may have another employer record or the employer may use another delivery method.
Can I create a new account to retrieve the form?
Portal accounts are generated through the employer or payroll processor. A new, unrelated account will not necessarily contain historical payroll records.
Who corrects an inaccurate W-2?
Contact the employer or payroll processor responsible for the reported wages. Payroll Relief provides the platform but does not let an employee independently alter the wage statement.
Prepare Before January
A Payroll Relief W-2 is easier to retrieve when the employee knows which employer record, firm code and email address are connected to the portal.
Before leaving a job, save the verified portal address and payroll contact information. Confirm whether access will remain active and whether the employer has a current personal email and mailing address.
During tax season, select the correct year and review every available employer profile. When the form is absent or appears incorrect, contact the former employer with the tax year, employment dates and employee ID.
The portal provides access to released documents. The former employer and its payroll processor control the record, credentials and correction process.
